Virtual "Easter 2021 Exhibition" (Page 2)
Unfortunately due to the Coronavirus epidemic we are still unable to hold any exhibitions this Spring (although we are hoping that it will be possible by the summer). We have therefore decided to again put on a 'Virtual Easter' exhibition to allow members to display the models they would normally have displayed at an exhibitions in the Spring. Twenty two members have entered this virtual exhibition and photos of their models are spread over two pages on this website.
The models here are an interesting lot. Some are brand new, and having there first exposure here. Others are older models which have not been seen for some years and all shades in between. We hope that you enjoy them.
A random selection of models from this 'Virtual Exhibition' appear at the top of this page, but they can all be seen over the two pages of photo galleries.
In addition some of our members have provided videos of their models working. These videos can be seen further down the page.
ENJOY
High resolution versions of the photos are also available to view or download if desired. In most browsers clicking on a thumbnail, will make that image stay on the webpage and you can then click on the link to get the high resolution version.

'Virtual Easter' Exhibition 2021 - This model built by John Herdman is based on the new trains ordered by Tyne and Wear Metro for delivery in 2023 from Stadler Rail. The model was built from drawings and dimension details received from Stadler themselves. The actual trains are of the "walk-through" type and are actually five cars in length. At the intended scale this would have produced a model of over 12 feet in length - which would have been difficult to exhibit and so I have omitted cars two and four to produce a three car train on four bogies which is just over eight feet long. As on the real train the bogies under the articulations are motored, each using a Meccano 6volt 'black motor', whilst the end bogies are trailing. The model is controlled by the Meccano infrared system and runs on 3½" gauge track. (26/02/2021)

'Virtual Easter' Exhibition 2021 - Wismar "Hanover-type" Diesel Railcar built by John Herdman. This is based on railcars built for minor railways in Germany in the early 1930s and is of the double snouted type with a diesel engine at each end. The model runs on 3½" gauge track and is infrared controlled. Power is by two standard Meccano six volt motors each with an attached 19:1 bolt on gearbox. They are realistically contained in the snouts. Each one drives the axle at that end of the car. (26/02/2021)

'Virtual Easter' Exhibition 2021 - Angel of the North built by John Herdman. I built this model some years ago from reclaimed Meccano parts which had had their paint removed back to bare steel. Once built the model was allowed to "rust" normally by occasionally spraying with water from a plant sprayer and it has now taken on the look of the actual sculpture. (17/03/2021)

'Virtual Easter' Exhibition 2021 - Northern Spirit built by John Herdman. I built this model several years ago as an imaginary sculpture to rival The Angel of the North and designed to represent everything which the North East of England is famous for. You will recognise the Tyne and High Level Bridges, the pit head stocks which represent the many coal mines which used to be in the area and the locomotive representing railways and heavy engineering - but did you notice the two ships bows which represent ship building, which took place on several rivers in the area? 'Virtual Easter' Exhibition 2021 - London Transport Tramway Works Car - Wheel Carrier built by John Herdman. These works cars were used to transport wheels, axles, motors etc between depots and also occasionally to carry setts, sand etc for road and track repairs. I built this model to test out the new Meccano motor D567 which is included in Supercar 25 in 1 set number 18211. It is a monobloc geared motor with end and side output orifices which accept three-flat axles. It has its own switch and speed control on the top which resembles a small railway transformer and accepts the end of an allen key. This allen key can be seen in the photograph of one of the cabs. It does actually work quite well in this model. (24/03/2021)
