Virtual "Easter 2021 Exhibition" (Page 1)
Unfortunately due to the Coronavirus epidemic we are still unable to hold any exhibitions this Spring (although we are hoping that it will be possible by the summer). We have therefore decided to again put on a 'Virtual Easter' exhibition to allow members to display the models they would normally have displayed at exhibitions in the Spring. Twenty two members have entered this virtual exhibition and photos of their models are spread over two pages on this website.
The models here are an interesting lot. Some are brand new, and having there first exposure here. Others are older models which have not been seen for some years and all shades in between. We hope that you enjoy them.
A random selection of models from this 'Virtual Exhibition' appear at the top of this page, but they can all be seen over the two pages of photo galleries.
In addition some of our members have provided videos of their models working. These videos can be seen further down the page.

'Virtual Easter' Exhibition 2021 - A Table Top Block-Setter built by Alex Robson. This was from the January 1975 issue of the Meccano Magazine. Modifications to the original design include
Steam Engine replaced with electric motor hidden within a ‘Dummy’ boiler.
Slightly modified main bearing.
Drive to bogies via shafts in each tower leg (rather than 1 shaft per side).
My own design of Filders gear, roof, side structures, ladders etc as none supplied in the assembly notes.

These machines are typically used in industry and in agriculture - particularly for handling the heavy round bales of hay etc., now common on modern farms. 'Virtual Easter' Exhibition 2021 - Wire Rope Bridge at Steall in Glen Nevis built by Dave Stanford. This bridge crosses the River Nevis in Glen Nevis (Fort William) some distance upstream of the road end. It leads to many hills and to a climbing hut. (22/03/2021)

'Virtual Easter' Exhibition 2021 - Block Setter Crane built by Dave Stanford. A version of a Titan Crane. The size is set by the double braced girders used for the sides of the tower. The bracing is not quite correct. It should really be cross bracing. I proportioned out the various elements of the crane to fit the scale of the braced girders. Some measurements had to be adjusted to fit standard Meccano parts. (15/03/2021)

'Virtual Easter' Exhibition 2021 - Medieval Crane built by Dave Stanford. This crane is built from a drawing of a medieval crane found on the internet. The wheel in which the man stands (walks) to raise and lower the load was built first. This then sets the size for the rest of the crane. (15/03/2021)

'Virtual Easter' Exhibition 2021 - A beautifully restored 1970’s Binns Rd. shop display model displayed by Ian Brennand. Following a good clean-up he rebuilt the main bearing and replaced the large sprocket wheel. He replaced the 240v mains motor with a low voltage one and fitted strengthening parts to the main frame and finally he replaced the original filament bulbs with LED’s. (26/10/2019)

The Meccano model scale has been increased to 1:40 to give better dimensions of the superstructure and tower and to allow more detailed depiction of the fittings (30/03/2021)

The Tronico construction method is to build separate modules and only connect them to give the final model at the end of the process. 'Virtual Easter' Exhibition 2021 - Articulated Low Loader built by John Bader. This is an updated version of the 1960's manual model. A more realistic cab front has been fitted, together with twin wheels on the rear axle of the tractor unit as well as on the removable axle of the low loader trailer. (02/05/2020)

'Virtual Easter' Exhibition 2021 - Railway Service Crane built by John Bader. Based on the Supermodel design, this model has four Crank Handles to operate all the movements rather than a motor. A Match Truck is provided to carry the lowered jib. Note the "well" in the deck to house the pulley block. (2010)

'Virtual Easter' Exhibition 2021 - Mantle Clock built by John Bader. From a 1968 Meccano Magazine and to a design by Pat Briggs, this clock uses the gearing inside a No. 1 Clockwork Motor as the majority of the gearing for the "going train". Built in Nickel and French Yellow parts. (02/05/2020)

'Virtual Easter' Exhibition 2021 - Another version of the same clock! built also by John Bader This one has a Crouzet mains motor of 10 rpm. Reduction provided by 2:1 Pinion / Gear, 5 : 1 Pinion / Gear, 1 :1 Helicals, then 60 : 1 Worm / Gear to the minute hand. The usual arrangement to attain 12 :1 follows to the hour hand. This model completed in Nickel, 30's blue and Liverpool yellow. (01/03/2021)

Not having a sufficient number of nickel parts I built it with pre-war dark red and green and made some alterations to improve the structure of the weighted arms and to make the gears driving them work properly. And not having a suitable boat I made one in zinc as a contrast. (12/02/2021)
